To Whom It May Concern:

Devin Martin has been my artistic colleague, intellectual challenger, and faithful friend for 8 years. We have collaborated on multiple musical projects and albums, including scoring the play Hunger Dreams, which was performed at the BCA in Boston and in New York.  Devin is a brilliant producer and a passionate musician.  As a musician and sound engineer, Devin is meticulous, thoughtful and tireless in his dedication to his work.  He is most concerned about “what the work has to say; will it effect people in a positive way?”

Devin has been an integral part of my personal evolution.  He continually challenges me to be a better singer, a better writer, and most importantly a better person.  He is the kind of friend who does not stand for laziness, consistently pushing me to evolve.  The Integral practice that Devin has been developing over the last few years has inspired me immensely.  The seriousness and dedication he maintains with regard to his meditation practice and his Integral studies are inspirational and motivating.

Devin is a serious thinker with a sharp and critical mind.  Not one to mindlessly seek a degree for conventional reasons, he has chosen to self-educate for the last ten years.  As a voracious reader, he continues to read works from a wide variety of disciplines, including science, philosophy and religion/spirituality.

Devin has a unique capacity to synthesize his varied reading into a living, breathing practice.  He is not interested in learning for the purpose of being able to quote his favorite writers at a party.  He is focused on integrating his studies into the very fibers of his being and consequently influencing those around him.

Devin is an intelligent optimist.  He maintains a healthy dose of skepticism, a discriminatory nature in the best sense of the word.  Devin has always been one to challenge the status quo.  Apathy and complacency are not part of Devin’s vocabulary.  He is a seeker of truth. Active experimentation and the verification of multiple sources lead Devin to answers.  Faith alone is insufficient.

Devin is a remarkable problem solver.  Whether faced with a computer problem, an electrical issue, an important decision, or a personal issue, Devin is the best one to call.  He has clarity of thought that comes from years of serious contemplative practice; he is focused and totally committed to the task at hand.  Devin always follows tasks through to their completion.

Within the last year Devin’s tremendous interest in the work of Ken Wilber and other Integral thinkers has increased dramatically.  Devin has said, “Finally somebody is providing me with the vocabulary for the things that I think about.”  His passion for Integral studies is a result of his own hard-earned evolution.  Integral rings true for Devin because he is already beginning to live a truly Integral life.

I have no doubt that if Devin were accepted to your program he would tackle his studies with complete devotion.  His study would not be one of academic and philosophical whimsy, but of critical purpose and intent; that of creating wholeness in his life and in the lives of those he encounters.  Devin is a natural educator who teaches others through his everyday interactions and conversations.  By admitting Devin into your program, you will in effect be educating many future students through him.  Devin has the potential to be an ambassador of the Integral message in whatever field he pursues.

Sincerely,

David Wesson
